Speaking Romantically…

Wedding programWe saw this post from the UK’s Stylist Magazine on the Top 50 Most Romantic Lines from Literature some time ago and, ever since, we’ve been searching for our own “most romantic” quotes in literature.  Some of these would be fantastic for a ceremony reading, or a quote in a program, especially .  From Stylist’s list, here’s some of our faves:

“You and I, it’s as though we have been taught to kiss in heaven and sent down to earth together, to see if we know what we were taught.” Boris Pasternak, Doctor Zhivago

“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”  Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights

If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.”  A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh

And our personal favorites!

From Brooke –

“I will love you forever; whatever happens. Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, I’ll drift about forever, all my atoms, till I find you again…”

“I’ll be looking for you, Will, every moment, every single moment. And when we do find each other again, we’ll cling together so tight that nothing and no one’ll ever tear us apart. Every atom of me and every atom of you…We’ll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pin trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams…And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won’t just be able to take one, they’ll have to take two, one of you and one of me, we’ll be joined so tight…”  Philip Pullman, The Amber Spyglass

From Joy –

“He loved me. He’d loved me as long as he he’d known me! I hadn’t loved him as long perhaps, but now I loved him equally well, or better. I loved his laugh, his handwriting, his steady gaze, his honorableness, his freckles, his appreciation of my jokes, his hands, his determination that I should know the worst of him. And, most of all, shameful though it might be, I loved his love for me.”  Gail Carson Levine, Ella Enchanted

From Wendy –

Look, I guarantee there’ll be tough times. I guarantee that at some time, one or both of us is gonna want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don’t ask you to be mine, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life, because I know, in my heart, you’re the only one for me.”  From the movie Runaway Bride (Cheating, we know.  But such a good quote!)
