The unique aesthetic and client driven design of Propmaker has made it a one of a kind rental company within the Dallas area. Emily Kissel, owner of Propmaker Event Rentals, shares how this chic rental company came to fruition and what keeps it exceptional to this day.
When and how did you get into the wedding industry?
In 2011, we built our boxwood hedge walls as a custom architectural piece for the newly opened Room on Main for our very first wedding, our own. At the time, boxwood hedges weren’t on the radar and nobody had them for rent. We weren’t in the event industry at all, but knew we wanted a unique solution to bring the outdoors into the gorgeous turn of the century ballroom to accommodate a major space flip after our wedding ceremony. After exhausting all rental companies nationally, we decided we would just build our own walls, and set to work on design plans. In addition to our hedge walls, we built a custom acrylic cake table for a very cool floating cake display. On our wedding day, every vendor we hired told us we needed to rent our pieces out because there was nothing like it available on the market. We incorporated our business name the very next day on the plane to our honeymoon in Napa, agreeing there was a future business there when the time was right. in 2013, we began market research, and development of our website, officially opening our doors in January 2014. To this day, our hedges and acrylics pieces are some of our most popular items.

Where are you based and where do you meet clients?
We operate off our farm in Anna, Texas. It’s a little non-traditional, but we have a great warehouse space right here on property. We love welcoming clients up to the Propmaker farm for meetings, photoshoots and a friendly visit. We constantly hear how it’s a welcome change of pace when our clients, especially industry vendors, come up to these gorgeous farmlands. Everyone breathes a little easier out here in the wide open country.

Describe your favorite type of client.
We are so fortunate to have some of the best clients! With our new 2017 collection, our clients this year are a bit more fashion forward. We feel like our 2017 brides are a really great fit with our brand, and are staying true to their personal style by selecting Propmaker Event Rentals. We encourage all of our clients to select decor based on what is most reflective of their true self so their wedding feels personal. We strive to have a unique offering in our rental line, and tend to book couples who have a strong sense of style and personality.

What makes you different at what you do?
Design is a passion which has taken root in our business. Our collection is ever evolving, staying abreast of global trends in fashion and interior design. I, as founder and lead designer, drive the vision for the signature Propmaker aesthetic. Propmaker maintains itself as a boutique luxury rental and design shop in order to stay nimble in our design offerings. Our collections are retired frequently ensuring we keep current with trends and our pieces stay in like-new condition.
When you call on Propmaker, you will connect directly with me on design. With my notebook of sketches in hand, I am an expert in taking client ideas all the way through to production. In my highly visual nature, often clients will be surprised with 3D design plans during the concept stages. My graphic abilities offer a unique skill set to planners so the vision and plan are clearly communicated to everyone involved in the production.
