This month, we’re heading down to Dallas to highlight one of our favorite venues, the Dallas Scottish Rite Library and Museum. Seriously, we daydream about events here. The Crystal Ballroom, which is the main event space at Scottish Rite, features classic architecture mixed with a cool New York loft vibe. The white walls, ceiling, and pillars give the room a bright appearance that can enhance many different decor schemes, from ultramodern to vintage. Simple chandelier lighting hangs from the beautiful plaster ceiling relief and is original to the historic ballroom.
The Crystal Ballroom holds up to 250 guests, but most events in this space are between 150 and 200, to allow room for a dance floor. There is a large dark wood built-in bar along the long side of the room, ensuring plenty of space for your bartenders to serve classic cocktails like Manhattans and martinis. One of the building’s best features is that it is, in fact, unique to Dallas. It’s an historic building – the wood floors are the originals, the ornate paneling is well maintained, and the beautiful moldings throughout the building look untouched.
You can use the Crystal Ballroom for your wedding ceremony, reception, or both! The Scottish Rite building also offers a particularly unique separate ceremony space – the auditorium. Any couple with a theater background will melt for this space – the ceremony takes place onstage! There are several sets to choose from as your backdrop. The scene is enhanced by the Egyptian imagery throughout the space, a legacy of the Scottish Rite’s freemasonry roots.
Scottish Rite also has several smaller rooms, including a parlor that is just right for a bridal luncheon. The library is a wonderfully cozy room, with floor to ceiling bookshelves and velvet drapes. There’s also maybe the best groom’s room we’ve ever seen in the basement – think pub and billiards. At least you know the men will be on time!
“We think it’s the hidden gem of Dallas,” says Chelsey Dane Arnal, one of the event professionals that works with Scottish Rite. Brides often gush about the gorgeous space and wonder how they’ve never heard of it! The venue had a rework in late 2012, and is now more beautiful than ever.
