Baby showers are some of the cutest events we’ve seen. From little bows and onesies to fabulous food and desserts, showers are a fantastic opportunity surround the parents-to-be and little one with love. As celebrity showers get more and more extravagant – I’m looking at you Kardashians – we see our clients getting inspired to host their own lovely celebrations. Whether it’s an intimate party at home, an afternoon brunch at a restaurant, or an elaborate dinner at a venue, the sky is the limit for planning a cute shower. While it’s exciting to see so many ideas floating around the internet, it can also make the whole planning process pretty overwhelming. Where do you even start?
Pick a Theme
With showers in particular, a great place to start is a theme. There are so many themes that lend themselves nicely to specific decorations, food, desserts, and games. Is there a color palette that would fit your event? Do the parents-to-be want a party filled with colors representing a particular gender or something more neutral? Could you incorporate your favorite children’s story or a cute little phrase? How about the theme of the nursery? Your inspiration can come from anywhere, so start exploring! Here are some of my recent favorites to help get those wheels turning:
I love the clean palette and adorable inspiration in this first shower. The twist on “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” makes my heart so happy.
This shower shows how a simple theme can be incorporated into so many different elements. And the hexagonal cupcake display is striking! It doesn’t take much to create an impressive focal point.
A book-themed shower gives you the opportunity to incorporate a lot of different food and décor options – plus the parents-to-be can keep the books for story time.
As you can see from the showers above, once you have your theme and colors a lot of your elements fall into place. For example, a recent client of ours decided that she would like to use varying shades of pink and a “Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice” theme. With that we were able to choose a venue with a cute vintage feel that could fit our guest count. We chose a caterer capable of pulling together a variety tasty and cute treats for the guests. Then we picked decorations that incorporated the shades of pink. It really all fell together once the style was decided. Then all that was left was to determine the activities.
Do you want Activities?
The first thing to note about shower activities is that there doesn’t have to be any. If your guests know each other well and like to chat, then adding in activities might interrupt their fun. However, if a lot of your guests don’t know each other, activities might be a great ice breaker.
If you do decide to incorporate activities, make sure to take in to account what will make the parents-to-be and the guests most comfortable. If mom-to-be is a little self-conscious about her growing waistline then maybe guessing the size of her belly isn’t the best option. Alternatively, a unique game that engages everyone might be the talk of the event!
Here are some fun ideas:
- For a different take on a guest book, you could ask your guests to decorate a page from an ABC book, baby blocks, onesies, or diapers with messages for the parents to read during a late-night diaper change.
- You could have a blindfold diaper changing challenge to see who can successfully change a baby doll’s diaper
- Baby bottle bowling using baby bottles instead of pins.
- There are also some super fun printable games that can range from baby babble where you have to unscramble baby related words to emoji Pictionary – can you guess what children’s story or nursery rhyme is represented by these emojis?
- If you decide to open gifts at the shower, then you can keep guests engaged with a bingo card featuring common baby shower gifts.
There are so many options and ideas to choose from that will suit the style and involvement you are looking for.
