Catie Ann Photography has captured countless weddings, life events, and even our team head shots a time or two. Her bright, airy photography style allows for people's personality to shine through while capturing their important life moments. Given the experience she has, we thought we would ask her all the important questions about engagement sessions!
But first things first....

What is Catie Ann Photography all about?
I capture a couple's Day One of happily ever after, focusing on finding the little moments no one sees happening, so a couple can look back at their wedding album in 30 years and still feel all the love that surrounded them on their wedding day. While I create artwork for them to enjoy today, my main motivation is documenting this season of life for all of their tomorrows.
What's something we don't know about you?
Styling details and invitation suites is one of my favorite things to do! It's like putting a puzzle together. Every wedding day has different details, different suites, and different heirlooms, and I love the creative aspect of figuring out how to showcase them in the best way.

What would you recommend wearing for an engagement session?
So many thoughts on this! I always recommend a dressy outfit and a date night outfit. You really can't go too dressy! Long, flowy dresses and skirts always look good on camera because of the movement they create, but also because they look amazing in natural environments. For more urban-style sessions, a cocktail dress looks great amongst all the buildings and concrete. For guys, a suit has a way of adding so much class to photos. So if they also want two outfits, I suggest a suit for one, and then slacks with a button down shirt for the other.

Should they get hair and make up done?
ABSOLUTELY! Yes! 100x yes! We usually know how to do our own makeup and hair for normal, everyday life, but it can tend to not translate on camera. Typically, you need to really amp up the hair and makeup to have it show up on camera, so I always recommend getting hair and makeup done professionally. Artists know what's going to look great in images without going too overboard. People always feel like it won't look natural because it's more makeup than they normally wear, but it does!

What locations are great for engagement photos?
I love locations that have meaning to a couple. Sometimes this is where they met or just a favorite hangout spot. If a couple doesn't have a meaningful location they want to shoot at, I always recommend White Rock Lake, The Arboretum, and Trinity Groves.

How soon should they get engagement photos done?
Just as soon as they're ready! If they are sending out save-the-dates, the earlier we can get the engagement session done, the better. If they're not worried about save-the-dates, we have a bit more flexibility. Some couples choose to wait until a certain season, but there is no deadline for engagement sessions. I love engagement sessions from a photojournalism aspect of capturing the relatively short period of time in their life between "yes!" and "I do".
