When and how did you get started in the wedding industry?
I started Sweet Somethings 14 years ago out of my home. It was a very small business, mostly making sweet treats for family and friends, but it quickly grew to be much more. I worked for other premier bakers in the industry as I grew, and finally decided to strike out on my own and opened a storefront in 2016. Building unique cakes fulfills my passion for art. I love being able to take that art, make it edible and use it to express love on such a special day.

Where are you based and where do you meet with clients?
My bakery is located in Caddo Mills, which is a small town located northeast of Dallas. Clients can meet with me there, or I have a consultation office in McKinney, just off the historic square. Consultations are by appointment only, at either location.

Tell us about your favorite type of client.
My favorite are laid-back couples who are very artsy and allow me to be more creative with their cake. I appreciate their trust in my talent.
What makes you different at what you do?
I have my hand in every aspect of their cake, from designing, baking, decorating and delivering. Thus, I pay attention to every detail to make sure they get what they dreamed of. I also use only real ingredients and never freeze my cake.

Do you have a funny story to share about a previous encounter?
The groom and his family went to LSU. The bride and her family went to Texas A&M. He chose to have the LSU stadium as his groom’s cake. Two weeks before the wedding, the bride secretly called me and had me add a guest section of A&M fans in the stands and had me change the score on the scoreboard show A&M was beating LSU. I actually got to see the groom’s mom react when she saw the cake. She was astonished and loved it. The best part was an ESPN anchor saw a photo of it on social media and retweeted it, causing it to go viral!
