When Chad and Rich came to us with their ideas for a surprise wedding, we were THRILLED because there’s really nothing better than planning two parties in one! Guests received invitations to celebrate Chad’s graduation from nursing school (such a great thing to celebrate!) and found themselves participating in a wedding ceremony halfway through the party. We decided on a tropical luau theme for the false front. It was a great day and it included wardrobe changes, entertainment, and general misdirection!

The Party
As guests arrived, they were greeted by hula dancers and supplied with leis. A polaroid camera and a guest book gave guests the opportunity to take photos as if just arriving in Hawaii after a long flight. Inside, we included fun palm patterned linens, bright island blossoms, tropical beverages served in coconut cups, and a buffet spread that included a whole roasted pig! Our cake was a bit of a double-blind – the topper declared ‘Finally!’, referencing not only Chad’s long journey through nursing school but also the couple’s steadfast relationship and commitment to one another.

The Switch
We invited guests to be seated to enjoy the hula performance on stage. While our dancers distracted the guests, Chad and Rich slipped downstairs to change into their ceremony outfits. As the hula dancers completed their show, the couple processed down the aisle with the officiant. Surprise! It’s a wedding!
